Since the last time that I wrote, I have been actively engaged in one of my life’s greatest adventures ever. Late last fall, in the height of my most successful business venture yet, I received VERY unexpected news:

Yes, we are expecting another wee one to join our family in July! This news changed EVERYTHING. I feel like this baby’s primary job was to bring my heart back home. I had spent the past 4+ years working on businesses in all my “spare” time and was largely distracted (out of necessity, I thought) from my top priority: my family. I thought things were okay, but looking back now I see how much I missed. I was constantly living in fear and stress about our family’s financial situation, wanting to create the way for everything to work out and for us to have stability and security in the life we wanted.

When I found out about being pregnant, I was making thousands of dollars a month, having my house cleaned on a regular basis and having my mom nanny my children 3 days a week. For the first time in years, we were financially doing great! However, as the pregnancy exhaustion began to set in, it became increasingly more difficult to maintain that kind of work load and financial responsibility. I began to see what a trap I was in by having to create so much money a month just for us to make it. I realized that even the month when this next baby arrived would make it so I would still have to work all of those hours each week, making it difficult for me to enjoy my new baby and recover from labor.

Frustrated and feeling like there was no way out of having to work, I took all of this to the Lord.

Through a series of miracles, including the Lord transforming my heart to be able to desire His will for me and my family, our family has since moved from our home of 6+ years and we are living in a beautiful, little apartment (we downsized by about 3,000 square feet, at least). Because of this move, we are no longer dependent on me needing to create any sort of income since my husband’s income covers all of our expenses. As a result, I’m able to focus more on my family, especially engaged fully in our homeschooling efforts.

It’s been the most incredible blessing to have this change. Now my children are saying things that bring tears to my eyes, like: “I like that you’re around now, Mom.”

I feel closer to the Lord than ever before, believing in His ability to transform hearts and deliver us from bondage. He truly is my Rock. I trust Him more now than ever before and feel more guided by Him daily. Best of all, I no longer feel like I’m standing in the way of His will for our family. Because of this, I am surrounded daily by the most beautiful, tangible peace I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. Miracles are continuing to occur for us daily in ways that are so obvious and astounding that I’m continually overwhelmed with gratitude and awe. I see His hand actively leading and blessing us constantly. He’s so much more merciful and joyful than I ever comprehended Him to be. There is no doubt in my mind that He is real and that He is there, especially when mothers seek Him in behalf of their roles and their families.

Without a doubt, our homeschooling has completely transformed, unrecognizable to what it was before. We’re having great success and thoroughly enjoying the bliss of coming together as a family to learn and grow. It’s been MIRACULOUS and has blessed every relationship in our family. We’re closer than we’ve ever been before and there is more harmony in our home than I ever imagined was possible. Home is a place I absolutely LOVE to be now. My children and my husband are my favorite people to be with now. There’s more laughter and light in our home now. It’s a place truly “where angels delight to come,” let alone a place where I delight to come.

Having tasted of this delicious fruit, I desire every mother to taste of it also. Because of this, I’ve set aside all other projects and business ventures and am solely focusing on a project another homeschool mom and I created: HomeschoolChic.com. So, if you’re ever wondering what I’m up to or want to find out more about this incredible transformation in my home and my life, come find me there. I blog weekly – at least – and we have created free monthly events that are incredible and are helping so many moms – both homeschoolers and those who have their children schooled outside of the home – to find greater peace, joy and liberation in motherhood.

This blog has been a record of the past few years of my journey. I’ve shared my professional food photography adventures as well as all the things I’ve figured out about motherhood that have led me to this point. I left for awhile to focus on my exciting, successful branding business, living life truly in the fast lane. Now, I feel like this blog’s time may be at a close. As much as I’ve wanted to come and post here, it’s just not worked out which has been a sign to me to be okay with letting this chapter close if that’s what’s meant to be.

Thank you ALL so much for your support and love throughout this journey! You have inspired me! You have encouraged me in my pursuit of finding happiness and creating something beautiful in life. Now, I feel like I have found that and I am overwhelmingly grateful!!! My heart is brimming with joy and peace and love!

Thank you, again, and may you find the treasure at the end of your life’s rainbows as I have! All my love, Quinn xoxo

**** Winners have been notified via email! Congratulations & thank you to everyone for entering! ****

“I could have spread my wings and done a thousand things, and still have begged for more….”

Yes, that’s right: I am a HUGE fan of the musical “My Fair Lady.” Oh my goodness. I absolutely LOVE Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison’s film rendition… I could watch it every day. The costuming and the music and the romance… ahhhh!! It doesn’t get better than that. Or, at least that’s been my fear. I’ve never been a fan of going to local musicals that I love on film. I’ve even been a wee bit nervous about Broadway for some of my favorite musicals because it would be so hard to not compare it to the film. Before I was in high school I loved the film of “7 Brides for 7 Brothers.” However, after being a part of the musical during high school (I was the pianist), I couldn’t stand that musical anymore. Well, maybe enough time has passed that I could see it again… or, maybe not.

But, I digress.

Recently Hale Centre Theater contacted me about coming to their Blogger VIP Showing of “My Fair Lady” and inviting a small handful of my readers to join me! At first I was a little nervous, thinking, “Audrey Hepburn won’t be there so it probably won’t be very good.” But, then, I thought a second longer and realized, “this is HALE CENTRE THEATER we’re talking about!! They put on a PHENOMENAL play every time!” So I quickly wrote back a “HECK YES!!!!”

So if you’d like to be one of the lucky few who get to join me on this epic adventure, leave a comment below and I’ll draw 3 names to be able to each have 2 tickets to see “My Fair Lady” on Nov. 3 (so you can bring someone special with you, too, if you’d like!).

Check out how fun this looks:

Would LOVE to have you join me!!! Will be SUCH a fun, fantastic night (even if Audrey Hepburn isn’t there *wink*)! xoxo

Yesterday I took my older 3 kiddos to Gardner Village’s WitchFest to do the “Ride to a Witch” activity.

I received complementary tickets for “Ride to a Witch” from Gardner Village over a week ago and was REALLY excited to take my kids out for a fun, different Halloween activity. However, I got less and less excited for it as the end of the month drew closer. I thought it probably wouldn’t be anything “that” special and I kept dreading dragging my small children through the swarms of people that always seem to be at Gardner Village this time of year.

Thank goodness I had told my kids about our tickets to “Ride to a Witch,” though, because they wouldn’t stop asking to go and yesterday morning was an absolute disaster of us trying to stall and not take them until next week due to having lots of other things going on. FINALLY, out of pure frustration I threw my hands in the air, hauled my kids in the car and we drove to Gardner Village.

I’M SO, SO, SO GLAD WE WENT!!!

After driving through the whole village to find parking, we ended up discovering a little parking lot reserved JUST for people doing the “Ride to a Witch” near where the ride starts (on the west side by the exit). It was like reaching the promised land! There was hardly anyone in the parking lot. So now when you go, you’ll know the best-kept secret of “Ride to a Witch.”

My hat goes off to the brilliant people who created this activity. Especially as a Branding Expert, I was THRILLED at how well Gardner Village understood and catered to their target market for “Ride to a Witch:” moms with younger children. While waiting to get our tickets, my kids could stand on bales of hay watching the pony rides (warning: be prepared ahead of time for how to answer your kids begging to go on a pony ride). After getting our tickets, we were directed to another area to wait for our turn on the ride. Again, Gardner Village got it right: the whole area was full of hay bales and rocks to jump and climb on. My kids happily played while I stood in line to hold our spot. Genius, Gardner Village!

Inside the waiting area there were lots of spots for photos, too. As a camera-happy mama, I loved this!

The “tickets” were hilarious. Each of us were given a little plastic bug.

“Ride to a Witch” takes you on a hayride to a “witch village” called, “Cricket Hollow Swamp.”

In the village, there are different stops to visit witches. The first was a witch who showed us her spooky home with all of her “delicious” potions and “snacks” (like little children’s ears, lol).

There were fun “witchy” things the kids could touch and even put on. I loved how hands-on it was. I didn’t have to be a frantic mess, worrying about my kids touching or breaking something. PHEW.

After this we went to meet another witch who was teaching us “witch disco.” The older kids were really having fun at this stop. My kids were feeling a little inhibited and were the wallflowers watching everyone else dance. The witches were cute about those who weren’t dancing though, saying things like, “oh, is this the part where we freeze?” trying to include them.

The witches costumes were awesome! They had so much detail and were really unique. All of the witches were really nice, too, allowing us to take photos randomly with them. Norah LOVED that (lol).

The part my kids have kept talking about though, was the witch who let them help make a spell. Each of the children there got to pick out a “magic bean” and then they all stood around the cauldron while helping the witch with her spell. My kids thought it was hilariously disgusting that so many crazy things were in the witches “brew.”

The whole experience was DARLING and SO worth the time and energy to take my kiddos there. “Ride to a Witch” costs $5 per person, which was a great deal for what a fun, safe, young-kid-friendly Halloween activity. I’d definitely take my kids again… in fact, as soon as we hopped off the hay ride to head home they were begging to go again. Now that I know what it involves, I’d love to be more prepared next time and strategically plan to go to “Ride to a Witch” when outdoor photography lighting is best (around twilight) and I’d bring my kids in their Halloween costumes so we could get some really fun, unique photos for Halloween.

Who knows, we may even end up heading back there this week before Halloween is over. Be sure to check GardnerVillage.com to know the dates and times so you can be sure to go when the “Ride to a Witch” is happening. It was SUCH a great activity and I highly recommend it. In fact, if I talk to you this week, you’ll probably hear me asking you if you’ve taken your kids yet to “Ride to a Witch.”

My friend took her kids who are ages 8 and 11 and they enjoyed it, too. It’s probably best for kids ages 2-10 (kids who are too young for haunted houses).

I’m very tempted to make Gardner Village’s “Ride to a Witch” one of our family’s yearly Halloween traditions.

Second… OH my goodness, my friends: I did it.

When I thought, “I want to write a book,” and then “I’m going to write that book today,” I truly had NO idea for how intensive of a project it was. Wow. This has been an all-consuming project and I’m just thrilled to have accomplished it, especially amidst all of the inner-opposition that came up in the midst of trying to finish the blessed thing.

HALLELUJAH, it’s done.

And, I am so thrilled with it. It’s filled with love and hope. I can’t wait for you to read it. I hope it blesses your life as the concepts and insights shared on it’s pages have blessed mine.

Last year, my birthday marked the beginning of one of the most dramatic shifts in my entire life. I feel like last year I began this process of getting to know the Truth of who I am and now I’m SO clear about who I am and what I’m here to do. I love it. I love my life. I’m so grateful for all of you for being in it.

In celebration, be sure to use the half-off discount code when you snag my book before Saturday here: http://theartisticmom.com/mothers-alive-with-passion-peace-purpose/

MUCH love to you!!!!!! Let me know your thoughts on this book. It’s 100 pages of passion, peace and purpose. Enjoy!! xoxo

After over three years of trying different businesses, including food photography, online boutiques, small business promoting, pro-blogging (at least my attempt at it), essential oils, boutique marketing, motherhood coaching and blog design, this weekend it finally hit me where the heart of my passion in business lies: BRANDING. Branding a business is my absolute favorite part of the whole thing. Once that’s over, I like the business, but my passion dwindles.

I attended the Prosperity Summit this weekend and happened to sit next to Kim Flynn during one session. She leaned over and told me how she’s been invited to be a part of an international speaking circuit, but they told her she needed to re-brand prior to joining them as a speaker. Much to her surprise, I agreed. I outlined the areas where I thought her branding was missing her target market and how I thought she could improve her branding. She was so thrilled with my branding perspective and advice that she had me come to lunch with her to discuss everything further.

Kim kept saying, “Quinn! This is your gift!” as she was amazed over and over again by my ideas and counsel. I was shocked, thinking how much fun it would be to just focus on helping businesses with their branding for my business. Business had always seemed like there were parts that were so hard, but branding comes so naturally to me. It always has. I absolutely adore it.

Here’s a little video of me with Kim, announcing her biggest branding change:

I do think I have a knack for being able to uncover an entrepreneur’s brand from within them and then assist them in expressing their brand in their graphic design, web design, marketing materials and physical appearance. It’s always been easy for me to see into people’s hearts and have a good sense of who they are at the core. In business, this comes in handy because I can see what elements would be effective in communicating an entrepreneur’s intention, personality and business in a visual way that is sure to be classic, updated and powerful in reaching their target market.

As I stepped into this natural gift this weekend, I received an overwhelming response from fellow entrepreneurs and have already got a week of appointments (paying clients) lined up with many more looking to connect with me soon as well.

When you find your passion, it lights everything else in your life on fire, including leading clients in need of your services to your path. I’ve never done anything in business that felt this natural and so “me.” I’ve enjoyed my other business endeavors, but this one takes the cake. I’m having a blast!

p.s. My book is sooooo stinkin’ close to being released for sale. Will definitely be up by the end of the week! Sooooo excited for that as well! Yay!!

As I study, read and learn more and more each day, I’m craving interaction on topics and thoughts that really inspire me. I’d like to believe that you, my dear reader, are equally seeking inspiration and would love this convo opened up more regularly here on my blog, too. So, without further ado, here’s tonight’s thought to ponder and discuss in the comments:

“You cannot find yourself by going into the past. You find yourself by coming into the present.” – Eckhart Tolle, Practicing the Power of Now, pg. 56

Beautiful image by Ester Miguez via Flickr

According to Tolle, the Present is the only reality that truly exists. Both the past and future are mirages, only available in memory or imagination.

I really resonated with this quote, especially as I’ve been increasing my capacity to live more in the present over the past 8+ months. I feel like I’ve found my True self. I used to think that if I understood my past more, I would find myself and know who I truly was. However, I see now that the past is simply a story about what I’ve experienced. It doesn’t define the Truth of who I really am.

Now, the game has changed to simply uncovering the Truth of who I really am by experiencing life in the Now. Life is full of vibrancy, color, joy, fascination and bliss. I go through my day feeling more at one with my life, those within it – especially my children and husband – and the world around me. The sunlight fills me. I am found within my family’s love, laughter, tears and connection. The True “me” comes alive in the present. I could have never experienced the Truth of who I am without first becoming present. When I am present, my life is a wonderful adventure and I am complete, whole and filled within it.

Best of all, I know who I am because I am sure of Who’s I am (God’s).

What resonates for you with this thought? What does it make you think about? What does it make you want to shift in your life? Does it inspire or overwhelm you? I’m dying to hear what you think! :)

As I was writing the re-cap post about the Mother’s Day Charity Brunch, it quickly grew long. Because of that, I thought it best to share my thank you’s here on a separate post. Truly, so many people blessed this event with their support, love and faith. First of all, I am so grateful to Marie Holleman, my business partner at RevolutionMotherhood.com, for suggesting this idea. She created a similar event held in Houston, Texas at the same time as ours here in Utah.

Next, I want to express deep appreciation for my Assistant, Shazia. I couldn’t have dreamed up a more perfect Assistant. She is phenomenal and was extraordinary in helping me put together the Mother’s Day Charity Brunch. The craziest part came when I asked her randomly if she’d like to help me with a charity event I was coordinating to benefit orphans in Bulgaria, to which she then told me that her boyfriend, Venko, grew up as an orphan in Bulgaria. From that point forward, we never questioned why we were meant to work on this event together. Thank you, Shazia (pictured below in between her mother and Venko who is also next to his mother, Chelsea)!

As with so many things in my life, I am extremely grateful to have been able to share this event with my family. My grandma joined us for the Mother’s Day Charity Brunch, even though it was her birthday *wink*. My amazingly supportive mom went above and beyond for me, like always (I’m so grateful!). She baked scrumptious breakfast cookies for every attendee and helped me fill all of the gift bags the night before, as well as helped me connect this event to several fabulous sponsors. It was such a blessing to have her support and talents. My sweet sister-in-law, Crystal, joined us for the event, also, bringing my darling, miracle niece, Libby (whom I was able to hold for the very first time at the event).

Funny sidenote: this picture is evidence of why I always considered myself to be tall growing up. Turns out, I’m just part of a short family (I’m only like 5’4″ or so).

I got a kick out of watching my grandma interact with Garrett (especially since she is only half his size).

I’m also very grateful for Kelly King Anderson, my dear friend, who is always so supportive, cheering me on (she bought her ticket to the event – the first one sold – within minutes of me making them available for sale online). Also, every speaker who participated in the Mother’s Day Charity Brunch came into my life through me first getting to know Kelly three years ago. Her friendship and sisterhood has blessed and continues to bless my life in miraculous ways. Along with Kelly, I’m deeply grateful for my dear friend, Calli, who was such a strength to me in creating this event, especially during the last two weeks of preparation leading up to it. She baked dozens of incredible cinnamon and orange rolls for all of the attendees and – most importantly – kept me “sane” and on the path to creating this event.

Above all, I am most grateful to the loving support of my amazing husband, Randy. How truly blessed I am to be adored by him. The Mother’s Day Charity Brunch would have been impossible without his support and faith in me and what was being created.

I’ve been so excited to finally write about the amazing Mother’s Day Charity Brunch that occurred earlier this month!

Wow. This was one of the happiest days of my life, honestly. Everything came together so beautifully. I felt extremely blessed to be surrounded by so many amazing mothers in attendance. Also, I’m sooo grateful for the amazingly talented Cortney Finlayson for sharing her photography talents with us. I’m just thrilled with the photos she created from this event which you’ll get to see below. Thank you so much, Cortney!!

To start off the event, we heard from the amazing Deborah Gardner (shown below – center – with her mother and sister-in-law), President and Co-Founder of One Heart Bulgaria. She spoke on “Mothering with Vision,” sharing strategies to better nurture ourselves, our families and the world. Deborah is an amazing person, especially an example of how to be an outstanding mother while also providing aid and relief to children on the other side of the world. Just incredible.

As part of her presentation we showed this inspiring video feature of her created by Mormon.org:

Then Venko Cook shared his story of growing up as an orphan in Bulgaria until the age of 7 when he was adopted and brought to the United States. What an incredible story and an amazing young man (shown below with his mother and me).

Then we enjoyed a scrumptious brunch provided by Maxi’s Deli. SOOOO delicious! Wow.

After eating, we had the pleasure of hearing from the incredible Linda Eyre. She spoke on “Finding Yourself Amidst the Madness.” I had never met Linda previously, but was very impressed by her. What a wonderful woman. It was such an honor to have her with us that day.

Following, Linda, we had the awesome, Garrett J. White speak about “Mothers Living on Fire with Passion and Purpose.” In many ways, Garrett inspired this event, largely because of my participation in his incredible Paid to Play Academy. Through his coaching and support, I’ve found more fully who I truly am, as well as seeing more fully my mission here on Earth (which definitely involves mothering my children and strengthening mothers). Garrett (my long, lost brother) is a HUGE reason why I’m experiencing so much more peace, passion and purpose in my life, especially in parenting.

Then I spoke about, “Activating Our Brilliance and Gifts in Motherhood.” This topic really resonates with me. As mothers we too often get bogged down by the “shoulds” and “have to do’s.” We miss out on opportunities for our life, through God, to feed us bliss, peace and happiness. We all have talents and were born to stand in light and brilliance. We were born to live beautifully, full of love and life. The first step in experiencing these truths more fully is knowing who you truly are, which involves knowing Who’s you are. This isn’t just some out-there, metaphysical mumbo-jumbo; it’s attainable. It’s real. I’m extremely passionate about this topic and could go on and on, but I’ll save it for future blog posts *wink*.

Afterwards, we announced the winners of our raffle drawings, gave away gift bags and spent time connecting with each other.

Everything came together perfectly. I am still in awe at what was created that day.

This event was such an extraordinary opportunity teaching me how to be led by faith and create what I feel God inspired me to. I nearly cancelled the event the week before due to last-minute panic and doubt. In the end, though, faith prevailed, for which I will be eternally grateful. My heart is still so full to have seen how touched the attendees were by the messages and the spirit of the event. I could see them filled with love, light and hope for their lives. They left inspired to live their lives with more passion and purpose. We were all strengthened by coming together in the divine cause of strengthening and celebrating mothers.

The icing on the cake was that through our efforts, we raised enough money to pay for a “baba” (Bulgarian “grandma”) to come nurture and help the children for over 6 months. One Heart Bulgaria receives requests for babas all of the time from orphanages looking for support. What a blessing to be able to help in this way!

——————————————————————————-

Here’s what some of the attendees had to say about their experience:

“That event was AMAZING. And the best money I’ve ever spent. So uplifting and empowering (and yummy) and fun!” – Holly

“Thank you so much for putting on the brunch today. It was a beautiful morning and I am grateful for the opportunity I had to attend. It was such a privilege to meet you as well. You have a warm heart and a wonderful spirit about you!” – Stephanie

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for a beautiful morning. You are right, it NEEDED to happen. It was beautiful and touching and the perfect gift for my mother for Mother’s Day. My heart is full, and I just wanted you to know that I am behind you 150% to make any further events like this a success.” – Kim

——————————————————————————-

I’d also like to specially thank each of the sponsors for this event. We couldn’t have done it without your OUTSTANDING support (Noah’s, Oopsie Daisy Boutique, Amano Artisan Chocolate, The R House Couture, Old Town Imports, Trellis Garden and Design Center and the Sandy Bosch Kitchen Center)!!!

Wow! I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve updated with a new blog post! Life has been CRAZY busy and CRAZY amazing. I’m learning sooooooooo much every day. It’s awesome! The Mother’s Day Charity Brunch was INCREDIBLE. I’m still in awe about how lovely everything turned out. Yay! I’ll be writing more details and posting pics as soon as they’re available.

Can I tell you how much I’m enjoying home school right now? Honestly. Yesterday we had SUCH a fun time, too! I’m finding that it seems of all the spaces involved in taking care of my children I don’t want to hand over their schooling to someone else. Why should they have all the fun, right? ;)

Yesterday was definitely one of those days where I’d rather spend time with my kids doing school-type things than cleaning, cooking or any other of the tasks I normally spend a lot of my time doing. We had a fun day, themed around Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

Quick side note: Doesn’t this photo look like I perfectly staged everything? Cracks me up! The tulip is so pretty and I have Claire to thank for it since she pulled it out of our yard *wink.* Have loved having it inside, though. I’ve made a resolution that every time I go grocery shopping now I’ll also buy fresh flowers. They’re not expensive and it elevates my mood so much to have them around, especially in my kitchen. It’s on my JOY List (a list of things/activities that bring me joy, just because; inspired by a challenge from the amazing Tiffany Walke Peterson). What would be on your JOY List? If you don’t have one already, I’d invite you to write down 25 things that bring you JOY and then do at least 1 thing off the list every week (items should be free/inexpensive).

After reading, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” my kids painted their own caterpillars using egg cartons.

Lena enjoyed playing with the sparkly green pipe cleaners we used for the caterpillars’ antennae.

We would have also played “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” card game (such a cute game), too, but my kids weren’t up for it after painting (I was being a little too ambitious, I suppose *wink*).

After painting their caterpillars, I made macaroni and cheese using butterfly (bow tie) noodles.

The “butterfly” mac and cheese was a TOTAL fluke, honestly, meaning that it just fell into place and I didn’t “plan” it. LOVE when that happens. :)

After the paint on the caterpillars dried <del>we</del> I put in the antennae and glued on the googly eyes.

Pretty cute, right? Then my kids and their friends played with them outside, hiding them in the grass and plants so they could turn into butterflies. SO fun. I don’t consider myself a “crafty” person, but I really, really enjoyed doing this with my kids yesterday.

I’m mapping out my home school curriculum for the next few months and so I’m thinking that I’ll be writing a lot more about our home school adventures over the next while. Will be fun!

Do you consider yourself to be a “crafty” person? What IS a crafty person to you? Have you ever made egg carton caterpillars before? Tell me what’s going on for you! Let’s catch up! :) xoxoxo
