Food Photography Friday: Blue Plate Diner

by Quinn on August 27, 2010

Not long ago I had the opportunity to try Blue Plate Diner with the Sassies. We ate on the patio and the lighting was PERFECT. It was a food photographers dream-come-true! I came home so happy with everything I shot. Twilight lighting really is magical sometimes, isn’t it?

Here are some of my favorites:

Just seeing these pictures again makes me want to run on back to Blue Plate Diner!  I often get asked, “why food?” when people hear that I’m a commercial food photographer.  Honestly, I absolutely LOVE photographing food.  Ask me to take pics of people and I just never get the same enjoyment out of it.  Food is such a simple, lovely, sensual thing to capture.  I think it’s a real art to make food look yummy in a photo.  SO much more goes into each food shot than just point the camera and clicking a button.  As anyone who’s ever taken a class from me knows, each shot I take is planned so that eye is led around the image (making the viewer hungrier and hungrier).

I feel I’ve found my calling in food photography.  It is truly my passion and every shoot fuels and inspires me to continue shooting food!

p.s. There are only a few more days for our SassyScoops Facebook ContestYou could win $200 just by becoming a fan of SassyScoops on Facebook!  So spread the word and show your support for local business!

p.p.s Putting together this food photography post really lifted my spirits!  My new goal is to be “blissfully pregnant,” allowing labor to catch me totally by surprise. Life is moving on as normal and I’m feeling MUCH better.  Thank you SOOOO much for your love and support!!!

I seriously wish I had your talent! That food looks AMAZING, I have never been there before but I think I am going to have dustin take me for our date tonight! I am so glad you are feeling a little better, I too want to make a goal to be more blissfully pregnant! Speaking of, I actually need some pregnancy advise… I think I will just email you, thanks!

Quinn, you have found your calling in life. I find myself looking at others’ pictures of food (mostly promotional, so-called “professional” prints) and they don’t even compare to yours. You have a style that brings the food to life and leaves me staring at the picture with my mouth open. It’s a little embarrassing at times, I’ll be honest.
Like these pictures. I say we head back to the patio of Blue Plate for some more onion rings and shakes!
