Thursday I shared some favorite photos from some of the lovely photographers who attended my last food photography class, the Natural Lighting Workshop. As promised, here’s some more photos from several other students. Everyone did such a terrific job and I’m thrilled with their results!
During the workshop we focused not only on taking better food photos in natural lighting, but also utilizing certain composition techniques and skills to optimize the “yummy” factor.
Check these pics out and tell me if you’re hungry after! ;)

Aren’t they YUMMY?!! I’m so proud of ALL of my food photography students! Thank you to everyone for sending me some of your food photos to share!
Next Saturday are my final food photography classes (at least for this year): Color Theory and Food Styling. I’ve talked before about the impact of color theory in food photography HERE and HERE. Color theory is all about knowing what colors work best together and complement each other. While I generally absolutely LOVE the food photography in Martha Stewart Living, I was really disappointed in one of the past month’s issues. They were decent pics, but nothing spectacular. I really felt like the “yummy” factor was absent and that the stylists had tried to make the food look hip, rather than hip AND delicious. When I sat down to figure out exactly what it was in the composition that didn’t appeal to me, I realized that most of the photos had totally ignored color theory. I’ll be teaching all about how to use color theory in food photography so that your food photos really POP! and look extremely delicious. You don’t want to miss this class!
I have said before that good food photography is often only as good as the food styling behind it. I’ll have two professional food stylists at the class teaching how to set the scene for a food photograph, as well as some unique styling tips (especially focusing on creative garnishing using everyday food items). These stylists are women that I’ve come to ADORE working with! They both have a very unique set of talents and a real love of food.
So… go snag your ticket right away! I’ve extended Early Bird Pricing for the Combo Ticket until next Thursday and I’ve only got a few tickets left. Can’t wait to see you then!
